Every figure below is pulled directly from a named primary source — NICB, State Farm, Verisk, Cotality (formerly CoreLogic), or a state insurance trade group — with a link to that source next to the number. National overview (2025)
- Texas recorded 902 major hail events (hail ≥1" diameter) in 2025 — the most of any state, and more than double second-place Illinois (375).
- The U.S. recorded 5,432 major hail events nationwide in 2025.
- State Farm alone paid more than $5.6 billion in hail-related claims nationwide in 2025, with Texas the top state at $1.4 billion.
- Top 5 states for hail claims in 2025 (State Farm): Texas, Missouri, Illinois, Wisconsin, Oklahoma.
- Oklahoma averaged 138 severe hail days a year from 2017-2019 — second nationally, behind only Texas (Verisk/NICB analysis).

Cotality's (formerly CoreLogic) 2025 Severe Convective Storm Risk Report found the Chicago metro area carries the largest concentration of risk in the country across all three major convective-storm hazards — hail, tornado, and straight-line wind — combined:

- Over 3 million homes at risk of tornado or straight-line wind damage
- $1.4 trillion in combined reconstruction cost value exposed

- Minnesota's average hail insurance claim has climbed to roughly $30,000, nearly double what it was a decade ago, per the Insurance Federation of Minnesota.
- Wisconsin averages roughly 15 days per summer with hail 1.5" or larger, per state severe-weather climatology.
